Board positions
Chairperson
The chairperson leads the student association and coordinates the activities of the board. They represent the association officially, chair board meetings, and ensure that operations align with the association’s rules and goals. The chairperson also plans and directs activities in collaboration with the board.
Vice Chairperson
The vice chairperson supports the chairperson and acts as their substitute when needed. They assist other board members with projects and help ensure the smooth operation of the association.
Secretary
The secretary is responsible for taking minutes at meetings and managing documentation. They also help with communication and announcements as needed.
Treasurer
The treasurer manages the association’s finances and oversees the membership register. They prepare budgets, monitor finances, handle transactions, and report on the financial status to the board, ensuring transparency and proper financial management.
Educational affairs representative (Kopo)
The educational affairs representative (kopo) serves as a student representative, participating in faculty meetings and communicating with students on academic matters. They ensure that students’ voices are heard in decision-making and share relevant updates on academic policies.
Social affairs representative (Sopo)
The social affairs representative (sopo) focuses on student well-being, organizing wellness-oriented events and activities.
Event Coordinator
The event coordinator oversees the planning and execution of the association’s events, including social gatherings, excursions, and other member activities. They are responsible for coordinating events and ensuring everything runs smoothly. The event coordinator may work with a team of officers who help with event planning and management.
Communications Officer
The communications officer manages the association’s internal and external communication. They maintain social media channels, announce upcoming events, and keep members updated on association news. They also work to improve the association’s visibility and brand.
Corporate Representative
The corporate representative is responsible for managing partnerships and sponsorship agreements on behalf of the association. They maintain relationships with existing partners, negotiate sponsorships, and seek new collaboration opportunities that benefit members, such as job and internship placements, as well as excursions. The corporate representative works closely with other board members to enhance the association’s visibility and networking opportunities with companies.
Officer positions
Officers play a vital role in supporting the association’s activities and are an essential part of the board’s work. Although officers are not board members, they make valuable contributions in event organization, communication, and maintaining the club room. Officers can be appointed by the board as needed at any point during the term.
Typical responsibilities for officers include:
- Event Organization: Officers assist with planning and organizing various events, such as social gatherings, excursions, and parties. They support the event coordinator by helping with logistical arrangements.
- Communication and Outreach: Officers may work with the communications officer to create announcements, update social media, or maintain the website.
- Club Room Maintenance: Officers help maintain the club room by restocking coffee and tea, keeping the space tidy, and ensuring it’s well-equipped for members.
- Other Projects: Officers may join projects or working groups to enhance the association’s activities and support member well-being. They are encouraged to bring new ideas and perspectives to improve the organization.
Specific Officer Roles
- Charge Officer: Responsible for managing the club room (Viritystila), the charge officer ensures the space is clean, organizes coffee and tea supplies, and takes care of necessary items.
- Webmaster: The webmaster manages the association’s website, ensuring its technical functionality and updating content as needed. The webmaster role can be a non-board position.
Being an officer is an excellent way to engage with the association, gain organizational experience, and contribute to the community without taking on a full board position.
